After nineteen years in prison for having stolen some bread, Jean Valjean, thanks to his meeting with the bishop of Digne, Monsignor Myriel, decides to dedicate the rest of his life to doing good. Some years later, he becomes the Mayor of Montreuil-sur-Mer under the name of Monsieur Madeleine. Unfortunately the past catches up with him and he is forced to flee to Paris.
